The roots of Pippin & Franklin were nourished in newsrooms across the American South, where the legacies of Zora Neale Hurston and James Weldon Johnson remind us that storytelling is both an art of observation and an act of preservation.​ From investigating Jackson, Mississippi's ongoing water crisis to covering some of history's defining moments for some of the world's largest news organizations, our work has always been guided by a singular mission: illuminating stories that demand to be told. What began in regional newsrooms has evolved into a practice dedicated to helping organizations understand how narratives shape public discourse and drive real-world change.
